I finally got a new computer. And that purchase was about 5 years overdue.
My old laptop was an IBM A20 Thinkpad. Manufactured in 1999, it had 128M of RAM and a 10G hard drive. Using that computer was a great exercise in how to get the most out of your PC. It forced me to use a ton of online apps, perform regular maintenance — and that in the end all that was a good thing.
My new machine is a Macbook. 2.0 Ghz processor, 1G RAM, and an 80 hard drive. The drive is somewhat small, but as I don’t download movies (I tend to stream ‘em instead) I should be good to go. I also tend to use xdrive.com quite a bit recently, and that will help as well.
Leopard is preinstalled on this bad boy, and I’m quite impressed with it so far. Way cool.
Now all I have to do is convince my girlfriend that using an IBM A20 Thinkpad is the coolest new Retro-fad for 2008!

1So she finally let you buy it? Congrats!
You’ll have to give me a tour of Leopard when I’m back in Dalian. My laptop definitely needs more RAM before I upgrade (512mb is bu hao), but I’m curious how it works.

2Good luck convincing her of that. You might have better luck if you invest in a can of pink spray paint (make that a glossy finish, girls like things that are shiny).

3good choice! I’ve got a cute lil’ white Macbook, and it’s a bundle of fun to use. I’ve got ‘Tiger’ on it, not ‘Leopard’ (bought it last summer when the Macbooks were 1st launched) but I’ll not bother upgrading the OS, as Tiger works perfectly.
