Just a quick update for you guys. Me and Rika took off from Dalian Friday morning. I’m somewhere over Halifax right now, so don’t even ask me how long ago that was. I think it was about 24 hours ago, though the international date line has me all fracked up as always…
China Airlines was typical. The plane smelled like burning oil on take off, and when in landed in Tokyo it hit the runway like a shotput. As soon as we hit Tokyo airport, I was taken aback every time I had to queue for something, as there’s always an attendant who’ll walk down the line and see how you’re doing. Brilliant. I still have a bag full o’ bagels from Narita airport which my brothers will likely inhale as soon as I see them at the airport. F@ck. Japan is awesome.
Newark airport looked cool, but we had no time fo’ nuthin’. They had a Miller beer place, and a Sam Adams place – and I was dying for a beer after the Tokyo-New York flight. But I had to content myself with multiple vodka-tonic & limes on the NY – St.John’s flight. I swear ta gawd this jet is so damn tiny. I can stretch my arms out and nearly touch both sides of it. 3 seats plus an alley wide. Damn tiny.
Update: Home now. Relaxing with the old dog. This is Missy. Some 10+ years old.
Just finished out my 20s yesterday. I was looking at my old passport photo below, and couldn’t help but miss my old bouncy hair. Well, I suppose it still bounces after it falls out and then hits the floor.
I’m heading home to Newfoundland the day after tomorrow for about 10 days. Short stops in Tokyo and New York as well.
I want to see where this kid ends up in 20 years. He’s gonna be such a dude. Stay tuned to the very end where he breaks into the “NA NA NA NAAA” part.
So awesome…
h/t to Jason Calacanis, who lists the kid’s bio over on Mahalo:
Ha Yung Wung (nicknamed “Hero”) is a young Korean boy born in September 2003. In May 2007, a video was uploaded to YouTube of him holding a small guitar and singing The Beatles’ “Hey Jude”. Since being uploaded, the song has been viewed over three million times.
Hero won a televised Korean talent contest in early 2008 called “Wunderkids” for his Beatles singing prowess.
Hero’s biography on YouTube is written from the point of view of Hero himself, even though he is not even five years old. It describes him as an extreme Beatles fanatic.
The trailer for the animated movie Kung Fu Panda is now available on the net. This looks like one to keep an eye out for, as the voice-actor cast is pretty impressive — Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie, and Jackie Chan.
In any case, a movie about animals doing martial arts should be a great recipe for success. Ninja Turtles didn’t do too bad right?
I was in a cab on my way to dinner yesterday, when I spotted a silver Nissan sporting, of all things, an Obama ‘08 bumper sticker! I suppose it must have been an American driving that car – which is unusual for expats here as most of ‘em are here short term – but I just thought it was way weird, and was very surprised and pleased to see it.
I suppose it wouldn’t have had to have been an American. People all over the globe will likely be rooting for Barack Obama to take the presidency in 2008. I know I am, and I’m Canadian. I watched Hilary Clinton on msnbc’s Meet the Press yesterday, and I found it really tedious to listen to her dodge questions as most politicians do.
Replies like “Yes, but I think the important thing to remember here is…”
Answer the damn question dammit.
Obama is a gifted speaker. And on top of that, I was pleased to see last week that he was busy making calls to opposition leaders in Kenya in an effort to help quell the craziness that’s going on over there. I’m also very encouraged that he’s willing to have dialogue with nations that the present administration have turned a cold shoulder to.
Contrary to what his opponents would like you to believe, Barack Obama seems to be more than just talk — and he’s showing that even now. Read the rest of this entry »
Just a quick note to say Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy New Year.
I wish I was home this year, but we’re gonna pass on that in the hopes of dropping my in mid to late summer instead. Probably best to avoid winter in Newfoundland.
In any case, it’s been a busy year and work has been hectic to say the least. But I’ve managed to squeeze in some online “hobbies” too, and I’m happy about that.
Here’s a quick look back at some of my highlights of 2007:
Wednesday, March 17, 2010 00:00 – 19:33 Or Guinness Day, will be on 17th March. I noticed that in Beijing they're celebrating by having a Guinness price war, with several bars cutting the 60 Yuan plus drink to 30 Yuan. That's about wholesale price when accounting for a little wastage. What's happening in Dalian? […]
