I recently wrote about how some Chinese youtube clones are hosting the Transformers movie online. While I don’t think I’ll be watching that, here’s one that I might check out:
Man, I used to watch these almost every day after school. Wish I could find the Go-bots cartoon. That’d be sweet.
Here’s a sample for ya, it’s the very first episode. It’s the one where the Autobots and Decepticons first land on earth:

Technorati, on of the best tools on the net for searching and indexing blogs is now accessible in China. This one has been blocked for god knows how long, and it’s good to see that the censors have come around.
Not entirely sure why this one was blocked to begin with.
Just in case you were wondering, some of the top Chinese blogs listed on technorati are Xujinglei’s sina blog, and yanxi’s blog – both indexed on the Top 100.
h/t to Eye of Modok on this one.

If you thought it was just the toothpaste, think again.
From aptly-named who-sucks.com comes the…
Some examples:
- Flammable baby clothes
- Razor blades for kids
- Toxic Jesus Fish
- Flaming boomboxes
This list is going to be updated as new Dangerous Chinese Products emerge on the market, so be sure to bookmark it and check back often.
I just came across a somewhat unorthodox way to get around China’s Great Firewall.
If you’re apprehensive about the governement censors picking up on any of your sensitive content, you might want to consider using this wordpress plugin to set up a sort of Super Silent Stealth Ninja Blog:

What this plugin does is converts the text that you write on your blog into an image (png file), which obviously cannot be read by Chinese increasingly robot censors. So if you were to write about the forbidden 3 Ts (and no I don’t mean that chick with the 3 titties in Total Recall) or F@lun G0ng, you’d be safe from at least a part of China’s Net Nanny.
Drawbacks:
- China does still have human censors, and they just might find you.
-
Your readers may have difficulty finding you via search engines, because just like the Chinese censors, google relies heavily on text-reading robots too. But if you’re confident the content is good, readers will most certainly come to you.
This is an interesting blog tweak for sure.
If anyone decides to test it out, be sure to let me know.

Ok, so the China Blog Awards have started, and I’m listed in the technology section. I’m currently way behind in voting, due in large part to being listed at the bottom of the page. I can’t see any other explanation for it.
Anyway, drop over and vote for me dammit!
Why? I’m awesome, that’s why.
And while you’re at it, go vote for Lost Laowai as well.
Wow. Even before it’s official Chinese release (July 11), it seems someone has uploaded a bootleg copy of Transformers to Chinese video website youku.
So, like the good internet policeman that I am, I hereby report this outrageous criminal act by re-posting it here: letting you know what to search for:
???? ???????DVD? site:youku.com
Of course it’s terrible quality. Seems to be a camcorder job. But I’m sure all that will change after July 11th. This is definitely one that I plan to see in the cinema.

Did I ever mention that me and my brother once made a fully functioning (i.e. transformable) Optimus Prime Costume? Jeff, you still have any of those photos? That was way cool.
Yi Jianlian, the latest Great Chinese Hoops hope, was taken with the sixth pick in the NBA draft over the weekend. Does anyone else find it hilarious that he’s going to Milwaukee?
I was at a bar having a few beers with Chris and two Chinese Saturday night, and the topic of Yi Jianlian came up. It went something kinda like this (but in a mix of Chinese and English):
Me: Did you hear about Yi Jianlian?
Liu: Ya, 6th pick. Miami.
Chris: No Milwaukee.
Liu: Miami?
Me: No, the Bucks. [Making antlers with my hands above my head]
Chris: Ya, the Bucks. [Making antlers with his hands above his head]
Liu: The Bucks?! [Making antlers with his hands above his head]
People at nearby table: [Staring]
Over at Positive Solutions there’s a great post about some possible trade scenario’s for Yi. But personally, I think if you’re lucky enough to be drafted, you should respect the process and be thankful no matter where you go.
According to the NY Times:
Yi’s agent, Dan Fegan, was upset and indicated that Chinese basketball officials, who have the final word on releasing Yi, might block Yi from going to the N.B.A. Fegan said that perhaps a trade could be possible.
Anyhow, here’s a bit that CCTV did on Yi Jianlian and the draft. They include some commentary and speculation about a possible trade, as well as a hilarious bit near the end where they do a quick intro about exactly who the hell the Milwaukee Bucks are:
