Here are a few more of my recent posts over on CNET Asia. The one that I’m sure will be of interest to most (assuming that this is not a technical mishap) is the sudden inaccessibility of Yahoo from within China:
Another one bites the dust: Has Yahoo been Blocked in China?
There’s an unusual twist in this story though. Drop on over to the Little Red Blog to read all about that. Lets hope everything is back to normal in the morning.
Update:
It seems Yahoo was indeed fine shortly after, and things appear to be back to normal now. It seems that this may have been even been a problem with Yahoo instead of the Chinese net nanny, as Vietnam experienced Yahoo problems too.
Other recent CNET posts:

I don’t make much from my Google ads, and I apologize if they annoy anyone. But I like the fact that my bank account back home has at least one steady trickle of cash flowing in, while there’s a marginally larger trickle flowing out for those pesky student loan payments.
In any case, Google’s Inside Adsense blog just announced that they now do rounded corners, and they do look pretty sharp. I’m gonna implement them on my main page for now, and I’m gonna scale the size down a little from what it once was.
I’m still going with big-ass image ads on my single post pages, just to mix it up a bit. I originally selected the 200×200 image unit for the single post pages, but it seems that the only China related ad that was coming up was that friggin’ Trains to Tibet ad. At least now there’s some variety…
That said, I have to admit that the most productive of all the ads I have running is the pink link unit across the top.
Go figure…
Anyway, I suggest you subscribe to the Inside Adsense Blog, to stay on top of developments and changes to adsense. It’s a blogspot blog so you may find it’s blocked here in China. But subscribing through bloglines (as I do) will put you in business.
No need to put too much thought into it, but spending a few minutes tweaking a few times a year might do you some good.
And put a few cents in your pocket.
So June 29 is the big day when the iPhone goes on sale. And I’m sure everyone is counting down the days until they can either buy the damn phone, or get away from the barrage of coverage it’s getting. I’m not gonna get into it too much, but there are a couple of China angles to the iPhone media orgy. One of those angles I’ll get into later this week over on LRB.
But lets start with what had to be an inevitable story. That being the first Chinese iPhone copy, a video of which has been put up on youtube. I’ve posted the three part series below. Oddly enough, I recently came across Apple’s official iPhone tour as well, which I have to admit is somewhat better produced, no matter how much I want to kick that nerdy guy in the nads.
If he says “revolutionary” one more goddamn time…
Anyway, nuff said. On to the videos: Read the rest of this entry »
I recently put up this photo of of these Chinese girls enjoying Tian’anmen Square, and asked you for your most humorous captions.
Here’s a what you gave me.
And I really hope posting these doesn’t get me blocked!

Ryan and Fili have probably done more for the China Blog Scene than anyone else out there. They have similar sites (haohaoreport.com & chinalyst.net), which aggregate the best China-related stories on the net, and allow users to find it all in one stop.
Normally they’d be each others’ most fierce competition. But surprisingly enough these guys have cooperated Bert-and-Ernie style, and have managed to help each other help China Bloggers.
And so it was that they created:
The China Blog Awards
Check out Ryan’s or Fili’s site for an full explanation on how to participate in the nominations and voting.
Here are my latest ramblings over on CNET Asia, for anyone who’d like to drop over and check ‘em out:
Ryan’s If I knew then what I know now Group Writing Project has just finished up. He’s managed to get quite a few participants, considering the small size of the China Blogosphere and the short time that the project was running.
There were a total of 11 articles submitted, and I’m gonna reproduce the list here in order to spread the good news. I hope that Ryan continues these little projects in the future, cause it’s a really neato idea for sure.
So please pay a visit to some of these sites. From what I’ve read so far, I’m pretty impressed.
