From Dalian, China --- "What are those wacky Dongbei-ren up to today?"

Well, not the entire wall. But just a part of it.

My buddy Dezza over at Mask of China (HK edition) tells about his experience in a town outside Beijing called Huairou. The section of the wall is named Huang Hua. Anyway, I encourage you to drop over and read his post about how several people in that town happily pointed him in the direction of (and taxied him up to) a section of Great Wall that they knew very well to be closed for repairs.

Anyway, if you or any of your friends are making plans to hit Beijing this October, be sure to stay away from Huairou.

You guys just messed with the wrong laowai!

Haha, sounds familiar.
I also had a Great Wall rip-off experience just a couple of months ago at Mutianyu, where we forgot to look at the prices before we ordered our food (a rookie mistake, I admit), then got charged 430RMB for 4 plates of dumplings and 4 cans of Sprite! The lady claimed this 1000% markup was reasonable in a tourist area. I was almost physically sick. Maybe I could have resold them to her if I had been!

Oh, by the way Rick. I reckon you should make your link text a different colour from the main black text, or people won't know they are links.

haha. I went to this section of the Wall last year - an interesting read for sure. I also can't count how many times I've been ripped off in this way from "friendly" Chinese people.

As for the 1000% markup Dan, that's when you ask for the name of the person, and write down the name of the business/location. Then state that the Beijing central government has recently implimented an office for complaints of locals ripping of foreigners because it hurts China's tourism industry (all bunk of course), but you might scare them enough into letting this laowai go unscathed.

I'm looking for some help…

We're starting a podcast for/by people who have immigrated to another country. We'd like to bring stories/articles by contributors FROM every continent, TO every continent. (i.e., a Mexican living in Canada, or a Scot living in France, a Dane living in Japan, an Ecuadorian living in Brazil, an Australian living in Africa, etcetera, etcetera.)

The "immigrant" category is rather large, examples include: expatriates, academics, aid workers, refugees, foreign businesspeople, spouses of "foreigners" etc.

I've written to quite a few organizations searching for good contributors; journalism schools, international corporations, non-profit aid organizations, etc. I've had a lot of interest, but not a lot of actual work submitted.

I was hoping to find help here in the blogosphere, as you all are prolific writers!

Please help! I need people to contribute articles (2-3 pages), 3 times per year. You may of course choose the topic, it may be light or heavy. Please see the guidelines set out in our website in the "contribute here" section.
